New server on my work lan, cannot ping to it on get on internet.
Hi,
my first message. please could someone point me to some reading material as I am happy to go through a newbie guide related to my problem. Or help me in this thread. Completed my first RedHat install on an hold Desktop PC, to help me learn a non MS operating system. I have plugged it into my work network (via a CISCO router) . The server successfully collects primary and secondary DNS server IP addresses so it must be talking to my work network to a fashion. but I cannot get onto the Internet when using my work proxy information I use for my browser on my windows system. and also (probably causing the above) cannot ping or see my new server on the network. during the installation of the firewall I clicked all the options to allow incoming FTP, HTTP etc. But I have not gone into the Firewall application and added a rule (do I have to do this?) Thank you for your time in advance. Lee SAS Institute U.K. |
Why not ask the network administrator at your place of work?
Since it has got the nameservers presumably it has been allocated an ip using DHCP. I can't think of anything obvious reasons why it dosn't work. |
What does your ifconfig -a look like, especially compared to Windows machines getting addresses from the same DHCP server ?
