New Linux network

Hi.

I've just got myself a new laptop and I'm hoping to start networking my 2 machines soon. My questions are:-

1) One machine is dual boot Mandrake 9.2 and windoze xp home. I'm hoping the laptop will be red hat fedora. Any obvious networking problems there?
2) will I need to do separate configurations on the single booting RHF lappie to interface with whatever os (Win XP or Mandrake) the dual boot machine is running?
3) This is my first network. Any basic help is really appreciated.

3. Its best to define what your ultimate goal is with respect to the function of your network. Do you want to share your internet to other machines? Do you just want a private file sharing network with no net access at all?
