New D-link Ethernet card


Hi,

I have dual boot system with Windows and linux. I added new Ehternet card. I have configured it in Windows. Not aware how to do in linux. can anybody help me out here.

Depends, chances are linux has recognised it already. Do you have any other ethernet cards or chipsets? Linux recognises ethernet interfaces as ethX starting from 0. Assuming you already have only one, run these as root to bring up the second one.
Code:
ifconfig eth1 up <static ip>
# if you use DHCP then don't put an IP in the above command and run this
dhcpcd -d eth1
As is obvious with this answer, if you provide more info then we can provide much more specific answers.

i did ifconfig eth0 up 127.0.0.1

... got a response there is a new mail in /var/spool/mail/root

You don't need to set the IP for eth0 as 127.0.0.1 - you have lo for that.

i used 127.0.0.1 as i do not have static ip , i am unable to connect to internet on linux (redhat8).
