Networking with Windows 7

I am brand new to Linux, having installed Ubuntu on my spare laptop yesterday! My other computer is running Windows 7 - I have washed my mouth out - and I want to be able to network the two so that I can share files etc. Is this possible?

Yep, easily. You can do one of two things:

1. Enable folder sharing on Windows (don't know how...haven't touched MS products in 7 years). On your Linux box, use the smbmount or smbclient to 'mount' the shared folder.

2. Enable Samba services on your Linux box, and mount the share from Windows, to your Linux box.

There are many Samba guides out there, and to do basic sharing is fairly straightforward.
