Networking troubles...

I have 2 boxes, one win98, one RH7.1
They are networked, and can ping eachother perfectly well, but thats all. Even after setting up samba, no shares can be accessed either way. Any ideas? (please).
on windows box, Start->Find->Computers, "192.168.0.1" (the ip of linux box) doesn't return anything, yet from dos prompt, ping 192.168.0.1 works perfectly!

You definately have Samba up and running correctly yeah? no errors in either log.smb or log.nmb right... Machines will only showup under Network Neighbourhood if you have their names in your hosts files, so make sure /etc/hosts and c:\windows\hosts are identical and list both (all) your machines.

You can always test your Samba server by using smbclient to attempt to connect to one of the Linux box's shares.

computer name..

firstly, yes, samba is definately configured correctly, and tested from the same box.

how do i set the name of my linux box? Is is just the hostname, or is it
netbios name = <whatever>
in smb.conf?? (that question is so i can create the name entry in the hosts file(s).)
surely though, even without the hosts file on the windows box being setup, searching for the ip should work.
