Networking - Router\Firewall.
 

I currently have a network setup where adsl modem\router\LAN - 192.168.1.254 connected, then off that is 4 machines-

1) 192.168.1.1 Redhat 9 (Desktop Workstation) shared printer
2) 192.168.1.2 Redhat 7.3 (Desktop - AX25 Packet System- 44.136.176.29 )
3) 192.168.1.3 Win XP (Desktop Workstation) Client machine
4) 192.168.*.* Redhat 7.3 (Server \ Firewall - Samba \WINS \ NFS \ Apache)

I want to disc the firewall on modem, using server machine(4), however, I am stuck thinking of how to implement the firewall where all is passed through it, as the currnet Gateway is adsl modem (192.168.1.254), where all computers connect through. Could someone please give me an idea as to the best way to go about incorporating the firewall\server into the system, as well as the best address for machine(4).. ie 192.168.1.0 ? or 192.168.1.200 ? ..etc

I sorry I don't know much about this, but I do know you cannot give a machine an address of *.*.*.0 or *.*.*.255. I don't think that the address you give the machine matters at all, as long as you remember what it is :)

Here's what I'm (trying to) set up:

ADSL modem -> Firewall/proxy/DHCP server -> Switch -> Rest of network.

My Firewall server has 2 ethernet ports. One will be plugged into the DSL modem directly. The other, will be plugged into the switch where all the other computers are plugged into. That way, if anyone wants to access the Internet, they have to pass throught the firewall and vice versa.
