I just started using linux cause i thought it would be fun. I ran into some networking problems though. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm using redhat 7.0. I'm dling 7.3 if the networking end of it is any different, then i'd wrather have help with 7.3. thanks
Might wanna spend some time troubleshooting you network in y our current configuration, Unless you have a really abnormal setup 7.0 supports a lot of networking hardware. what kind of probs you having?
this is pretty much my first time to try and mess with linux of any sort, and i tried to get help off the internet on the networking. I went into linux config, set everything up, that didn't work, so then i ran a few other progs that didn't help any, and now, on boot, when it tries to start lpd it fails because it says my host name is bad, then if i try to start gnome, when i log on it says "looking up internet address..." then my host name. i have no idea what i did to make it do that, i did it yesturday or i would remember. any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like your using DHCP to assign IP addresses, if you have the option of using a static address, type "ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1" if you explain your network a little better it would be easier to trouble shoot it, how many NIC's? how may computers are connected to network? Does network problem relate to file sharing or internet access? is this a Windows/Linux network?
it's a windows network here at work, i just had nothing to do and decided taht i wanted to learn linux, so i started. I'm not using DHCP i have a static ip setup that wasn't taken by any other computer on the network. I have one nic a 3com 3c509, so i have it loading the module for that nic, but i have no idea what's going on with it. We are on ISDN, about 40 computers on the network. a windows 2000 advanced server as a domain controller and file server.
