I am trying to connect two computers through a network in order to transfer files. One computer has win98SE and the other suse 9.3.

I can ping each computers to the other one using ifconfig and winipcfg. This is about as far as I can get. At times I had both computers on (Win) network neigborhood, but I could not get any files in either computers.

This is about all, I don't know enough to tell you any more. I want to transfer *.jpg's amd *.txt files as a first step.

Just create a shared folder on your windows machine and mount it over smbfs on your linux box.

Let's assume the following:

Windows 98 IP address is: 192.168.1.2
Suse 9.3 is: 192.168.1.3

Go into your Windows 98 Folder and create a share folder with EVERYONE permission and allow read/write.

In SuSE 9.3, open up konqueror and type this in your address bar:
smb://192.168.1.2/sharefoldername

VOILA! That's it. Now move your pornographic pictures and erotic stories over before the wife finds out!

FYI - if you don't want your Windows folder being shared by everyone, then you can use a user account on the windows box with smb://username@192.168.1.2/sharefoldername . You should then get a pop-up asking for your password (for the Windows 98 machine)

If you want to go the other way from Windows to SuSE 9.3 ,let us know.

created several files on Win98 as well as suse. one example Sh.

on Suse when I click the Sh icon I receive the following:

the file or folder smb://169.254.181.2/SH does not exist

on win98/netWorkNeigborhood/test

you must supply a password to make this connection

\\linux\test

I have tried many files on both systems with the same result.

Is it time to reload and start over?

That's an invalid IP address. Make sure your windows machine is on the network. An easy way to find out is to ping your windows machine from your linux machine. If you're getting replies, then you're good to go.

I sure hope you don't mean re-installing the OS. Just because something doesn't work, keep trying. Something is not configured right, that's all. Re-installing the OS does nothing to help, at least not in this situation.

ok i understand but my problem is that I need to hack in another PC, and he did not shared his HD so u see. i would like to hack my teachers pc to see exam that he is planing to give us. so if u could shove me some tricks it would be great thx...
