networking


my samba seems to be working i can see all the files in the local host and as well as browse through them locally .

the iptables seems to be messed up i get a dmesg that iptables are incorrect during boot ..I have a bridge and nic card but linux has got same mac address on both of them

Also i am connected to a lan and my machine is the only linux machine on a windows environment not able to ping my neighbouring machine but can ping locally


help is all i ask for

ok, you have one nic or two? a bridge is a device that connects two networks together so is that what you mean, is it a network card that happens to connect to another network?

is the network card that is connected to the rest of the network on the same subnet?

if you can't ping then either the machine you are on has a firewall setup this is blocking ICMP packets and therefore stopping the ping reply's, or you are not on the same subnet and have no route through to the other pc's on the network, or the other machines on the network are blocking ping requests (unlikely if they are all windows pc's).

you may need to detail the iptables error messages from dmesg but let us know about the other stuff first.
