Network Testing Question

I work as an engineer for a voice and data networking company .... and I am looking for a linux utility to be able to plug an old laptop running RH8 with command line only, into a customer's network and run tests to do assessments on whether the network is ready for VoIP. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks

What do you mean exactly? Do you need QoS tests or just test bandwidth and such things?

For a short term test, latency + traceroute, you could try mtr (I think it comes as a redhat package). Maybe ttcp for a brute-force throughput test.

As mara said, it would help if you mentioned what you need to measure.

I would ideally like to find a utility that does a complete VoIP assessment including QoS and bandwidth measurements, however I can handle having multiple programs that can accomplish the same. Preferably the utility(s) should be able to run for a set time period and produce some sort of reports afterwards including MOS values. Thanks for your help.
