Network statistics - low layer

Does anyone know a way to look at the Ethernet statistics on a Linux machine? I'm running RHEL4u4 and normally I'd look at the switch port it's attached to however this one's attached to an unmanaged switch so I cannot view the Ethernet statistics to see if it's pulling errors.

You can probably do what you want in iptables (counters on the various conditions), but this is probably better advice if:

i) You are already familiar with iptables
ii) You have 'hand written' your existing firewall script
iii) You can easily define what errors you are expecting

if those are not true, there is probably an easier way of doing it

Thanks but netstat -s will give those kinds of statistics. I'm looking for raw ethernet statistics.
