Unhappy Network goes inactive

Hi,
I recently installed RedHat 9.0 on a Pentium II.
I configured successfully Ethernet connection during the installation procedure but I continuosly observing a problem:
the network interface eth0 after a short interval of time goes inactive
and as a consequence network services become unavailable.
To re-activate these services I have to restart network services.
Can anyone give me a hint to solve this problem?
Thank you very much in advance
Ciao Marco

More information would really help.

- What make/model of card?
- What driver are you loading for the card?
- Are you using DHCP, or static IP addressing?
- If DHCP, which DHCP client are you running?
- describ your network setup in more detail.

Hi,

thanks for your reply - it gave me a hint what to look for....

I have fixed IP Addresses
and a DLINK DFE 530TX (REV C1) Network adapter.

I network configuration I found under Hardware:

VIA RHINE...... Adapter,
I switched to NE1000, NE2000 and compatible and at the
moment it works.

I will see, if it gets deactivated automatically in the next days
and tell you, if this fixed my problem.

Thanks again!
Lars

Hmm... strange,

If the NIC really is a 530TX (as opposed to a 530TX+), it should use the via-rhine module. If it's a 530TX+ it would use the 8139too or rtl 8139 driver.

It's 530TX (REV C1) -
I switched back to VIA RHINE because NE1000 didn't work.

I know, that there are different Revisions of this network card...
Maybe it's a bug in Redhat 9...

Might be something with Redhat 9, I don't know.

I've got a Rh9 box on my network acting as a streaming audio jukebox and it's been perfectly stable since it went live 2 weeks ago.
