network connections suddenly slow to respond (ssh, mythtv) except pings are instant

Have a mythtv box running knoppmyth

Everything has been running fine for over a year now. however I changed to a netgear router from a zoom x6 router, and suddenly connections really lag. Everything used to be instant, and now just getting ssh to respond can take 10 seconds or more. Gettin remote myth up can take up to 30 seconds..

After unsuccessfully trying to get things to work, by disabling ipv6, i tried putting the zoom router back.. Everything is still lagging..

Sometimes after a reboot, the machine responds properly for 30 mintues or so.. But then goes back to having connection issues... Once connected it appears to stream data ok.. But everytime a connection request is made it can take up to 30 seconds and causes software like the frontend, or my ps3 connecting via upnp media server to time out..

I'm not a linux guru, but I can get around pretty well.. I would really appriciate any help trying to track down this issue..

Samba connections appear to function properly..

Sounds like there was a DNS server running on your old router, but that function is not enabled on your new router? The reason I say that is because SAMBA uses WINS for name resolution. Do you use IP addresses or machine names for your connections?
