Angry network config

Hi

I've installed Linux on my PC at work (mandrake 9.0). I've configured Internet and e-mail : it works... Now I'd like to access the NT network : which means that I'd like to see NT shared network drives with my Linux...
Can someone give me a very DETAILLED help on what to do... (I've found a billion docs but never something very detailled on how to do...)

Thanks for help

Philippe

In gnome2 you can do smb:// in nautilus, there is something similar for KDE, network:/ ? I can't remember.

If you know what the sharename you want to use is, try:

man smbmount

If you just want to connect to a share, try this command -

mount -t smbfs://ip_address/share_name /mnt/myshare

replacing ip_address and share_name with the relevant details.
Your share will appear locally as /mnt/myshare

If this fails try putting an entry in /etc/hosts for the machine you want to connect to this allows Linux to resolve the ip address for the name you are about to type in.

then try this command

mount -t smbfs://NT_name/share_name /mnt/myshare

same as before but using the NT name instead of the IP address.

If you want to browse for your share I beleive you need to install the full samba server and then enable nmbd and smbd.

cheers
