box
192.168.0.8
___________
3 nics are in the Suse box which acts as the firewall/router. Eth2 is out to the hostile internet and eth1 and eth0 are bridged for the internal network for the 2 windows xp boxes.

Currently you can see and access shares from all systems from the Suse box.
The windows xp boxes can only see the shares on the Suse box but not each others shares.
All systems are present in network neighborhood but as mentioned the 2 xp boxes cannot access each others shares.

The Suse box is masquerading for the bridge and all systems may access the internet.

What can I fix in order to get back and forth from one windows xp box to the other?

I have taken down the xp firewalls for testing but I cant seem to even get the 2 boxes to ping each other.

Thanks in advance to all takers

What about the firewall on the SuSE box? Does it block anything on br0?

well for troubleshooting purposes I take all the firewalls down and it doesnt seem to help. I am a bit in the dark as how the samba server on the suse box handles requests from one xp box asking to view the other xp boxes shares but I am thinking that is possibly part of the problem. Of course the xp boxes cannot ping each other. Unfortunately a more simple configuration with the 2 nics for the internal network configured to separate ip addresses doesnt work either. 1 and only 1 of these nics will work at a time for that configuration so I went to this bridge configuration.

When I try to access one xp box from the other thru network neighborhood I get

\\Hurricane(name of the xp box) is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the admin....
The network path was not found

Great(snickers sarcastically) that narrows it down

broke down
bought a network switch now all seems to work well.
I think that perhaps the problem was related to the bridges ip perhaps I should have put the bridge up without one or perhaps I could of used EB tables to properly direct the requests
oh well good luck to anybody who endeavors to do the same hope my posts help
