With my old pc, running Windows 98, I set up my router (Draytek Vigor2200USB) and got it working, no problems to get on the internet.
Now I have a new pc and installed Slackware 8.1, and after adding the driver I got my ethernet connection up. I gave both pc's a static IP within the range of my router. I can ping my router and my old pc from the new one - very nice, thank you very much. But when I try to connect to the internet from my new pc I get the message "connection refused". Then I try to ping the nameserver of my ISP, then I get the message that the network is unreachable!!!
Yes, I have the nameserver IP's in /etc/resolv.conf, ifconfig says my eth0 is up with the right IP. What am I doing wrong? What did I forget? Is the problem in the router or in the linux configuration?
