hi everyone,
There is a network that i want to measure its traffic, and kinds of traffic, but don't know which tool to use, can anyone help me?
i just want to know the traffic types(http,smtp,...)
I think (but could be completely wrong, there's not much to go on) that the OP was more interested in something like wireshark or tcpdump and he wanted to capture, say, all the network traffic for a short period, and analyse it later.
Wireshark is _the_ protocol decoder that also does a nice line in traffic stats, although it might be overkill for what you want. If you only want stats, not packet decoding, then try ntop. It has the advantage that you a can place a machine running ntop to do the stats collection and then browse to it from whereever to look at the nicely graphed results. Check it out - www.ntop.org
there is one more question,
if i want to see for example only the http traffic or smtp, can i do that with ntop?
cause i want to analyze traffic based on protocol(http,smtp,ftp,..).
thanx for replies
