"NETGEAR WGR614" and laptop

I have got an internet connection at home and now i want to use both my desktop and laptop work for the same connection.

so i bought a "NETGEAR WGR614" router.could you please tell me a way to configure both my desktop and laptop to work for the same connection

I tried the following ip address for the laptop individually and it didn't work.

IP:192.168.1.2
subnet:255.255.255.0
Gateway:192.168.1.1
Prefered DNS:192.168.1.1

can you tell me where i did wrong?

Thanks in anticipation

by default ur router ipaddress is http://192.168.1.1 and more details will be behind the router. for further details u can go to www.netgear.com. i think u need not give any gateway or dns. once the webpage is opened u will find everything.
best of luck.

Thanx for the reply...but

I can't find anything when i opened the webpage 192.168.1.1

when i googled yesterday some work-around suggested to try out ips with 192.168.36.15(30,45) i.e., in the multiples of 15..Is there any reason behind this?

try 192.168.100.1 . That may work. Our cable modem uses that address. You may can do a google search and find out what the address is too. That was what I did with our cable modem.

Of corse, if you have a direct connection you can just look at the network connection and it will tell you what address it is using.

Hope that helps.

hey did u check behind the router? u can reset the router and it gets its default ip, username, passwd.(the defaults will be available on the box or behind the router)

check this site :http://www.netgear.com/Products/Rout...m+Requirements

That did not work on mine because it was to far out of range. I had to set mine manually to 192.168.100.1 then turn it off and back on. It worked fine then. It was a bit picky at first.

Keep in mind that if you change that you have to change the address you use to access it too.
