Netework problem with VMware; really strange
Hey guys I hope you can help me with this. It's a little bit complicated.
I have a Notebook(NX7000) with Linux Fedora Core 2 installed.
It is directly connected to my Desktop PC via crosslink cable.
I have VMware 4.5 running on the Linux notebook.
I encoutered following problem. When both pc's, notebook and desktop pc are connected over the corsslink cable the bridged network of my fedora core 2 and WinXP (VMware) works great. As soon as I remove the cable from my notebook I can access the bridged network for about 15 more seconds then nothing works anymore!!! I'm so confused, I don't get it. I thought it could be a WinXP problem? So I installed Win98 as Virtual Machine. The same problem.
As long as eth0 link is on I can use the bridged network. As eth0 goes down I cannot do this anymore? This doesn't make sense. should I carry my desktop pc with my laptop around???
I checked the network setting of my eth0 device and couldn't find anyting. the syslog also doesn't give useable information. has anybody an idea what this can be? that's so weird! It must be something with the linux fedora core 2 settings I guess, but it also could be a VMware configuration problem?
Thank you very much in advance
regards
gerd
