Netbios settins in windows 2000

I am trying to let my windows 2000 machine access my linux shares but I'm getting a system 53 error. How can I make sure that my netbios settings are correct in windows 2000 and on my linux machine.

I looked up this on the "how to" and came up with this.
System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found. This error message can happen if you aren't running Windows XP Service Pack 1 and have disabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT). See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 308246.

Now I have Windows 2000, I thought I enabled enabled Netbios and did these settings in my config. My netbios name is Mylinux. I setup a user
different from that name called joebloe and I also logon to win 2k with that user and a password for it. I also added this by smbpasswd. I also made all my shares browsable and chmod the permissions 777 for the shares. Also, my host name is mylinux.

workgroup = WORKGROUP
netbios name = mylinux
security = user
wins support = yes
encrypt passwords = yes

Ok, the problem was solved. Here's what I had to do in case anyone runs into this same problem. I had to do a number of steps. Because I was running Win2K, I had to change the network settings and place my linux hardware ip address into wins which you can find when you go into properties of your network adapter. Also I had to make sure I enabled netbios for tcp. I also had to make sure my lmhosts file on my win2k had my linux netbios name and ip address. Then I had to enable the ports 37 through 39 thru my firewall. THen on the linux side make sure in your config file, smb.conf that you have allow host for your linux hostname ip address. A good troubleshooting guide is online from samba just do a search in yahoo for troubleshooting guide and samba. Anyone have any problems with understanding what I wrote feel free to write me at elynum@bluehousetech.com
