net-snmp unknown token

I'm trying to get net-snmp working on my system (fedora core 4).
I have net-snmp /libs/utils installed. When i start the snmpd service it comes up with a warning unknown token for all of the tokens in the conf file. I've changed my conf file just to have rocommunity public in it and it does the same

/etc/snmp/snmp.conf: line 1: Warning: Unkown token: rocommunity.

What am I doing wrong? How do I fix it?
