Need help with HTTP Server and Apache on Suse 9.3

I am a newbie and in our office we are trying our FIRST Linux Web Server. I installed Suse 9.3 and then went to YAST and ran HTTP Server. It said I needed the Apache stuff first, did I want to install, and I said yes. Now, when we try to access the server from another machine, we get the message:
Access forbidden!
You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 403

Oh, also, we noticed a public_html directory that we thought we should be able to put an index.html file in to view, but that apparently was wrong.

Like I said, it's our first attempt and I'm really clueless. Please help...and use small words! :-)
Thanks! Kathy

Hopefully this is an easy one. Put an html document named index.html into the default web folder and try again. If you can then read it, it means that you were trying to get a directory listing as there was no default document and Apache , by default, won't allow anonymous directory listings.
