Hi, I kept run into this kind of trouble, hope experts from LQ can point me to the correct direction.


This happened to my mdk few times, i'm just gonna use 1 of the very recent example:

Run some kindda internet driven program (can be anything - mozilla, mplayer playing online stream, etc. But in this very recent case, it happened to be LimeWire ) and program crashed and cause machine freeze (keyboard freeze too).

When reboot computer, completely lose internet connection. I can ping 127.0.0.1, but I won't be able to ping (or any kind of network potocal) anything else at all. when try to ping www.yahoo.com, without delay, it will shows "unable to resolve host".

I'm using yahoo SBC DSL, so to get online, i use rp-pppoe program. Noticed that when I use: adsl-start, msg return as: ...Connected!
But then when try use internet, I get "Unable to Resolve Host".

So far the only way I go around it, is to reinstall everything (I know its very dumb, but I don't know my linux box enough to tweak it )

Please guild me to see where I can investgate the root causing problem, so I can solve the problem without start everything all over.

p.s: dunno if this help, but i'm gonna throw this in---- i used to be able to bring eth0 down by issuing "ifconfig eth0 down", but whenever computer crashed like this, ifconfig would still shows eth0 information even after ifconfig eth0 down
