Ok well im moderately new to linux I just installed fedora 6 on my box today, everythng went well, until i realized it isntlike knoppix or dream linux with the adsl/pppoe configure tool. So I found i had to download the raging penguin file and that should work. I installed it fine, It said connected but it didnt work, it wasnt really connected. I have Sbc Yahoo...the modem is speedstream 5260. I tried getting the dns servers automatically in the program and putting 2 in that were supplied by sbc (the program didnt connect when i put them it said "time-out" Ive out lasted all the options for rp-pppoe, it just doesnt seem to work for me, and I need this connection to finish a report for my job tomorrow. Is there another way. Help would be greatly appreciated.
How do you connect to the modem? USB or ethernet? In my experience (different modem), USB was far harder to set up than ethernet - with ethernet, you just connect your cables and use it.
Are YOU connected? How did YOU resolve the issues? Please let us know. IF Not connected....contact YOUR ISP and inquire if YOUR connection is "PPPoA" or "PPPoE"? It makes a big difference for YOUR Distro. Some Linux Distros use PPPoE like Ubuntu. Some use PPPoA like SuSE. We need more data to help YOU. And we have similar issues YOU can help us with. Please post back.
Well I could not connect via Fedora 6.
Though I popped in a Ubuntu Dapper Disk and installed it on a seperate drive at first.
I ran the ppoe-conf tool from the shell, and connection was simple.
I've gained much more knowledge now using ubuntu and have a wireless network set up and running.
Thanks for the concern, glad to let you know.
