What are the capabilities of this laptop. IMHO a network adapter would be a lot easier
A regular parallel cable will not work. http://www.linux.com/howtos/PLIP-9.shtml http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/PLIP.html You can also use a null modem serial cable. http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue41/smyth.html |
I agree that the parallel port connection will be more work than, e.g., a network connection, I, too, have an older laptop for which it is quite difficult to find suitable hardward expansions. In you situation, if you can't find a suitable ethernet adapter, I'd opt for the serial port. You can even set up your W98 system as a X-terminal and tunnel X over ssh for remote graphical connection to the Linux system. X-Deep-32 is a freely distributed Windoze X-server.
