nas device can use ssh?

Hi,

I need to put nas on 4 brach offices and ftp backup files back to main headquater on weekly basis. But i want to use some form of secure ftp and i am thinking if a nas allow me to install small software or linux basis (which i can use ssh) will help to improve the security. I look up the info abit and found these intel one possibly can do this :
www.intel.com/design/ser...storage/ss4000-e

and also possibly Synology DS101, the Iomega NAS100d, the D-Link DSMG600
www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/HomePage

I don't want to build a nas as it is going to be more expensive with raid features (i don't want to spend more then 1.5kAUD for each of 5 unit) . But i do want to have little twist rather then just use the preload web administration features. Does anyone tried any of the product above or done this before? Appreciated if anyone can share with some experience here.

Hello taiwf

I buy a DS 106e few days ago and after installing the patch http://oinkzwurgl.org/software/ssods/syno-telnet-r1.zip via the firmware update page in the admin web page, i can now access to the DS106e via telnet.

Username: root
password: {password of your admin user}
IE: your user: admin have the password test so
to login you can use:
Username: root
password: test

or

Username: admin
password: test

but in the last case you will be loged as simple user.

You can as well enable the sshd deamon by downloading the patch from Synology web site:
http://www.synology.com/enu/support/download.php#106e

It work fine for me :)
