Exclamation N00blet trying to configure Samba (mandriva 2006) so i can access Windows XP home

Hello everyone. I have 2 seperate SATA harddrives, 1 has windows the other has Linux(mandriva 2006 powerpack edition) and I was wondering how I can access files on my XP system. Right now i'm able to access my music files on windows through Amarok. So i know i can talk to my other harddrive but how can i access all the files on my XP harddrive? I'm assuming Samba is the way to go. I see a set samba mount point, but thats all i see on how to set it up!

Have a look in amarok where it finds the files, it will probably be in /mnt/...

hm...i checked:
/mnt/windows
thats where it got it but how does that help me? I can only access My Documents through that folder, nothing else on the windows system, and i was wanting to access like all my files to see if i can use wine on any of the .exe's

I'm assuming both of these drives are on the same box, in which case I'm not sure Samba's going to help you much. Samba is a server, and it's used for communication between different machines. Both the Samba server and the Windows XP host have to be running for Samba to allow any kind of file transfer between the Linux and Windows box.

Or so is my understanding of the use/functionality of Samba. Anywhos, I don't think Samba's what you're looking for.

Are you using XP professional?
Try setting the user rights of the maps you want to access to the same as the "My Documents"
