my system won't recognise my root right

hello all,
i am still having problem with my internet cable connection and i could not manually configure anything since my system keep telling me each time that i don't have permission to access console as root user, "logged in well as root"
IFCONFIH /ALL, DEVICE NOT FOUND
/ETC/RESOLV.CONF, YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISION TO ACCESS THIS FILE.
/ETC/SYSCONFIG/NETWORK-SCRIPTS/IFCFG-ETH0,NO PERMISION

Well, if you're typing everything in capital letters, no wonder. UNIX-like operating systems are case sensitive.

i am sure i know the different and when to use either one,it is not about lettertype or size.
i am here because i really need help from people who know more and enough to share.

bring up a virtual terminal ( gnome-terminal, kterm, something that says terminal).
in prompt type whoami <enter>
if it says root, then go ls -al /etc/sysconfig <enter> and tell us what it says
if it doesnt say root, go su <enter> then it will prompt for password type that in, then run netcfg from the prompt.
redhat distro, if your using soemthing else find who owns the files and permissions on the network scripts files.
