multiple nic card config

I am running Ubuntu server 8.04.

I have installed two nic cards, eth0 and eth1, which I have
attempted to config with /etc/network/interfaces with two
separate static addressed entries.

My problem is that with only one card connected, I can
ping the machine with either static address. What I need
is each nic card to respond only to its own address, to
have them be independent.

Can anyone help with this?

hi,
you can use

#neat-tui
text based interface to configure nic in most of the linux boxes

What exactly does your /etc/network/interfaces file look like right now?

Also, the output of these would be nice to have:
Code:

/sbin/ifconfig
Code:

/sbin/route -n
