multiple NIC arp problem

Hi,
I have two NICs (intel pro 1000 desktop adapter) on a dual processor xeon machine running linux 2.4.20-8smp. I am using latest e1000 drivers(NAPI enabled). My problem is that only one of these two cards is sending arp replies at any time. So, if I check arp table of a neighbouring machine, same MAC address is found for both the IP addresses. I am receiving more interrupts from one card than other due to this. Can anybody suggest what I should do to avoid this?
