Angry multiplayer tcp/ip game & loopback interface on RH 8

Hi all;

I have Redhat 8.0 on my sony laptop - it rocks. However I installed the LOKI linux version of railroad tycoon 2 and if I try to play a multiplayer (tcp/ip) game the game shows that my ip is 127.0.0.1 (my loopback interface).

I even ran 'ifdown lo' as root to bring the loopback interface down and then launched the game again. I get the same results...

Any ideas?

loopback

Hi!
..And i agree, RH8 rocks. =)

...And back to the issue; Are you trying to start a tcp/ip game against other human - players?

If so, then read the following..

Tthe loopback device has nothing to do with tcp/ip gaming.

What You have to do, is to install/configure your internet - settings;
starting with modem/ethernet card, etc..
Depending on witch one you have, you have to start
eth or ppp interface, THEN run the game (well, actually you have to configure BIND and nameservers etc before that..)

Configuring internet

I think I already have this done. I have an eth0 connection and I can bring it up and down via ifup/ifdown. I also have a wlan0 wireless connection configured. They both come up with an IP which is not 127.0.0.1 - however this is the localhost ip listed in /etc/hosts (127.0.0.1).

Am I still missing something?

btw - yes I am trying to connect to another human player via the LOKI version of Railroad tycoon2
