multi email question

Hey all,

I recently had a support ticket come my way stating that a user got a bounce back from a mail server at craigslist and the email stated that rds failed.

the issue here is that there domain is stored on a email server that hosts several domain's.

im thinking if i change the email great header to something other then smpt1.host.com so that the only thing qmail sends is the HELO with nothing after it... it may be a bit better.

currently it's setup to say
HELO smpt1.host.com which comes from ip address 208.112.x.x
and when it does a rds lookup for 208.112.x.x it points back to smpt1.host.com

your thoughts?

Your current setup is correct. The host name should be included in the HELO, the host name should resolve to an IP address so that a reverse lookup on that IP will resolve back to the host name.

It might help to get the exact error message in the bounce. I've never seen reverse DNS referred to as "rds" before, so there might be something else going on here.
