It's OK, everyone's gotta start somewhere!

You're using the directory from my example as a mount point:
/local/mount/point

This won't exist (unless you've created it), so I'd change it to something that does exist...

Create a new directory:
Code:
sudo mkdir /mnt/gandalf
Change your 'smbfstab' file (replace '/local/mount/point' with '/mnt/gandalf')
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/samba/smbfstab
Restart smbfs to pick up the changes:
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/smbfs restart
Then see if you can see your files:
Code:
ls -la /mnt/gandalf
Then create a sym-link to your windows share on your desktop:
Code:
ln -s /mnt/gandalf ~your-ubuntu-user-name-here/Desktop/Gandalf
Double click new 'Gandalf' icon on your desktop.

Good luck.

Hi thanks, the latest puts a folder on the desk top, however this is Not Linked to the networked drive.
However there is now a link in the save dropdown when in Open office to the networked drive, so I may not need the desktop link. ( it would be good from my point of view to be able to get my head around it) Not able to access the PC as not at school over Easter.
Thanks for your help.
