Mounting hardrive located in a WinXP box

I have an old Dell that I installed FC3 on to use as a DVR. The problem is that this box can only handle harddrives up to 80GB (give or take). I had already purchased a 250 GB drive, so I installed the drive in my (much newer) WinXP box.

Is there a way for my linux box to mount the drive located in the WinXp box so that my DVR can save the recordings to the much larger drive?

I did install FC3 on the 250GB drive, but I am not sure how to progress. I read a little about NFS but it implied that I would need the server (250 GB box) running in order to use it. That is a problem since I use the WinXP box for virutally everything.

I also found a project called coLinux, ,but I may not be skilled enough to get that working.

Thanks for any insights

You need to use samba. From XP, activate sharing on the folder(s) you wish to share. Then on the linux box, if you're using gnome, you should be able to open the "Compter" icon, then "Network", and so on. You should be able to see your Windows shares.

For command-line mounting, you can use

mount -t smbfs //ip_of_xp_box/folder_name /mount_point -o username=foo

or something similar. See the manpage for mount and smbmount for details.

You'll have to open ports 135:139/udp and 445/tcp on your firewall if it's active.
