Mounting a NSS volume in Linux

Hello Everyone,

We run a Novell 6.5 OES network at a school district. I have not had luck with mounting NSS volumes in Linux. I have searched Novell white papers and forums now for a week, but to no avail.

I was not successful using Suse 10.2 and the tools that are available in the Novell Services. Here is the question, has anyone, ANYONE been able to mount a NSS on a linux distro? If so what packages were used and distro. OR if anyone knows another site besides the Novell site that has a step by step.

Thanks!

Found the answer

I was able to find the answers that I was looking for. Just for any one else, ncpfs is the package used to do such a task. Make sure you use FQDN in the ncpmount command. (well thats what I had to do.)

remote or local

Was ncpmount able to mount the NSS file system directly, or are we talking about accessing it via the network?

I've just worked on the same issue and have mounted Novell NetWare 6.0 NSS volumes from Suse 10.1 using the NCPFS package. Should be much the same for Suse 10.2 and NetWare 6.5 I imagine (or is that madness to suggest, I wonder?)

Anyway, the steps are in my Techblog which should be world-readable, if I've set the Apache permissions correctly - else forgive me (and let me know please and I'll fix it) here:
http://www.sml.hw.ac.uk/itc/serendip...e-folders.html

Wasn't too difficult but I found it befitted the term "a real learning experience", shall we say! There are fragments of how to do this around the place but nothing that covers it in the detail that a beginner might need (as is my case). Also, I haven't quoted all the sources I found to make it work as the article is primarily intended for my own records and not really of publishable standard, but I hope it helps!

Duncan
