Monitoring data transfer per user

Hi,

I've been asked to set up some sort of monitoring one of our linux boxes which can display how much data each user (user processes) transfered over the network.

I'm not quiet sure where to start for this, I think I will possibly look at monitoring data from apache / tomcat but I'm not sure if this is the most efficient way.

Does anyone out there have any clues? or has someone done this before? I know this is possible as I've seen it done in things like CPanel but not sure what techniques are used.

Cheers.

Hi -

There are several good possibilities. For example, you might want to look at IPTraf.

Here are some links with a whole smorgasboard of options for you:

http://searchnetworking.techtarget.c...183183,00.html
http://www.slac.stanford.edu/xorg/nmtf/nmtf-tools.html

Just Google and you'll find hundreds more. Google a few of the most attractive-looking candidates, and you'll quickly get a sense of which tools might be most appropriate for your situation.

Good luck .. PSM

You can install bandmin. It works good, and it`s a cPanel integral part.
