Monitor bandwidth usage and attempted usage!
Ok here's the deal:
One times slackbox on customer premises acting as Internet gateway. On eth0 I have ADSL router on eth1 I have LAN connection. What is required: I need to know all traffic trying to escape the network (all except needed ports are fire walled and I need to know what is trying to get out) as well as all traffic leaving and entering the network. MRTG is not an option. I have tried a host of different applications and nothing can give me the desired result. I need something that I can install on remote box and leave for a few days to see how much has been blocked and how much has been let through. The customers need this data to find out what might be hogging their bandwidth at other branches aswell. (branches without Linux box) I have searched through the forums and found nothing of any real help(using google site search). I need assistance please. |

as for a web-based solution, i've used bandwidthd before and found it to be very nice... Quote:

Thanks for the suggestion. bandwidthd was just the thing I was looking for.
I needed a detailed account of what was happening on the network, not just a rough overview. So this provides me with just what I need. Thanks again! |
oh BTW I HAD SOME TROUBLES with iptraf not logging anything. It would create the log file but would not log anything.
More than likely I just was not using the command correctly but anyway I could not collect all the data at once in a nice easily presentable way. |
