Modem Installation
I have a Diamond supraexpress external 56k modem, everytime i boot up mandrake and try to connect from the control center, it says /dev/modem cannot be found. So i have to re-setup my connection everytime, gets annoying, Is there a fix? Im sure there is but im lost as i am completely new to this whole Linux thing, sorry :( I'll get the hang of it, I hope.

www.linmodems.org Your modem may or may not work with linux.

It has worked before, it is just all of a sudden that it stopped working. Thanks for the help.

what do you mean by "setup your modem"? is /dev/modem a symlink to the actual modem device file? also, do you have the device major/minor ids aliased to your modem driver in modules.conf?
|
Yes, /dev/modem is a symlink to the actual device and it says that it cant be found, i can connect once but after i disconnect, it wont work again. I have to reboot inorder for it to work again.
device major/minor ids aliased to your modem driver in modules.conf, i have no idea what that means. |
sounds like a driver bug where the driver refuses release the device. i have a similar problem on an old smartlink winmodem and still looking for answers...
in the meantime... try (in a root shell)... rmmod --all to unload all inactive drivers (may need to run the command twice) |
