Exclamation insmod failed on bootup, new error, and do i care

I booted up without my ethernet hooked up. Had to reestablish a new connection on the next boot. Now I get this message plus another or 2. But this is the first one. Ethernet now works. But something has changed. Read the info insmod, I dont have a etc/modules.conf file.

This install has always been RedHat 9.0 off the cdrom. Has run well for months for me just using the default install. The question is has my security been impaired, or should I reinstall my Linux.

I such a newbie, I feel lucky just to be able to do a infor or man. Most of the time, what I want to know isn't there.

Thanks for any and all possible replies.
