I wish some guru would answer this question. Honestly i've been stuck to this problem for 2 months. On one LAN, i use the smb: on nautilus and worked fine immediately, whereas on another LAN, it gave me that same error that the master browser cannot be found. Please answer this very common query.
Try setting your OS level to 65, then restart the Samba server. Also, you shouldn't have to disable the browser service, that might also be causing W2k to stop using a Master Browser for the domain/workgroup. With an OS level of 65, your Linux Samba server will win the election for Master Browser I believe.
I have the same problem Penguins. On RH Linux9 I can't seem to get the smb:/// master browser to work. Thus I must always reboot all computers to Windows to do file sharing. I suspect not everybody does this, but cannot find any response.
I get a comment back saying that no host "(null)" can be found: pls check spelling. Linux comment are sooo useful.
Even contacting RH priority support doesn't help as they don't have the answer either.
