when i typed in [root@localhost tim]# tcpdump -i eth1 it replyed with 'bash: tcpdump: command not found' ... theni tired the GUI run program and it said ... 'could not run the specific command'

by the way ... i really do appreciate the help ... i've been working on this project for almost a week none stop w/ little progress ... so when i say thanks what i really mean is

eth2 not showing in netstat -r or route -n

ifup eth2, to bring up your eth2 nic.
then try route -n or netstat -r again.

So far it shows that eth2 is not up.

After ifup, try <ifconfig -a> to see the interfaces that are setup.

I using MDK 10.1 as well

Sorry about the eth2 stuff I thought you were setting up a gateway,

Do you have iptables running? if youre not on the web, you wont need it.

But just disable it in the <configure my computer-system-services> no need to remove it.

Ive found it can cause probs when running a firewall script at the same time.

And I found that I could ping ok after disabling it.

urpmi tcpdump
to install it.
Sorry that I left you, but it was some time after midnight

sorry about complaining ... and thanks for the help ... i may come back to this project in a few weeks ... frankly the paper for this project was due like last firday so i'm just going to b.s. my way through the paper so can get it handed in w/o too many more points taken off. Sorry to just give up like this but i've had enough stress over this project. Thanks again!
