Mandrake dual boot XP issues
yes yes i know this is technicaly aan XP issue but i still need help
Anyway, if it works in XP won't mandy feed off of the XP partition for the information to connect to my dsl? I have just built a computer and am attemmpting to get it online with verizon online dsl through a modem they sent me. Im having trouble however connecting to the verizon service through their modem with XP. I've already turned off all the firewalls that i run in XP and attempted to use the cd verizon sent me. neither have worked. My eather net adapter thats built into my mother board is working im sure of that. But when I set up the connection to obtain IP adresses automaticaly, it only gets theses which are obviously not correct. Address type: Invalid IP address IP Adress 0.0.0.0 subnet mask:0.0.0.0 default gateway: (blank) if you have experience with either XP or Linux Mandrake 10.0, help is greatly apprectiated. If you have a solution for either OS, feel free to post, I'll be accepting any answers i can get. |
How are you sure that your onboard eth adapter is working? Have you used it before? Have you installed the drivers that came with the motherboard for the onboard eth adapter. You might have, but you need to install them again after you install XP. As for mandrake I'm not really sure. I have never used it. But you should be able to check the status of your ethernet adapter if it is installed. login as root using su and the type ifconfig. that should print the eth status. If its installed and configured correct. I have not used a dsl modem before. but there might be service that needs to be running for dsl. If you do have it configured right, you can bring your eth device up and down by using "ifconfig eth0 up" or "ifconfig eth0 down".
I guess if its an anboard eth adapter it would be eth0 or eth1 if there are more than one adapters. Sorry I can't be more help.. Try that stuff and let me know what happens. I will try to help you, the best I can. peace let me know. |
its eth0
ifconfig eth0 up came back as "siocsifflags: Function not implmented"
ifconfig came back as not a bunch of stuff (non of which said eht0 anywhere) ifup came back as: "Determining IP information for eth0...SIOCSIFFLAGS: Function not implemented SIOCSIFFLAGS: Function noot implemented failed" im thinking of installing a new ethernet network adapter i got at a garage sale (XD) o yeah, its eth0 because its built into my motherboard should i do this and then get back to you more? |
just got drivers for the onboard reltalk eth adapter
im installing them now

I would try a diffent eth adapter. I have never liked onboard devices. At least then you'll know better what your working with.. I think that kudzu will detect your new card when you boot. Like I said I dont know much about mandrake.. But let me know what happens with the new card and we'll go from there..
