Does it work to restart the network? i.e., as root:
service network restart
If not, what kind of error messages do you get? I have Mandrake 8.1 running on my firewall, and it occasionally (every couple days or so) just drops the internet connection (cable modem), and must be restarted like this.
i am connected to a router but i have all gateways, etc. set up. i haven't left mandrake running so it may not be that. it says it initialized the ethernet card on boot though
It might help if you posted some of the solutions you've already tried, google searches you've done, log files you've looked at, errors you're getting, etc.
well i did what he suggested with restarting the network and no help there and i've redone the config for it which was correct and still is several times
Maybe you should post the relevant configuration files. You claim that your network is configured properly, but obviously it isn't, because it is not working.
