Mandrake 9.0 connection sharing with windows ME
Hi need help please very very new to linux, here's the situation
The server is my linux box and the client is the ME(ip 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0), I set up the config on the win me just like one of the post said(ie type dig get the server ip then nslookup the ip to get the hostname and domain) so i don't think the problem is at the ME part
As for my own linux box I'm using a usb adsl modem D-Link DSL 200 with the eci-adsl driver which works fine (still trying to get it to work on boot) so my internet connection is tap0, while the ethernet card(with ip 192.168.1.1 according to ifconfig) is eth0
First question is about the Mandrake Control Center -> Network & Internet -> Connection Sharing (drakGW), my config is
**Local Network Address: 192.168.1.0(default)
**Net Mask: 255.255.255.0(default)
**(This) DHCP Server IP: 192.168.1.1(default)
**The DNS Server IP: (ip from "dig" command)
**The internal domain name: (from nslookup)
** the rests are default values (ie DHCP start range: 16)
if this is enabled as is at boot the internet will not work, so is there a mistake in the config?
another method i get from this forum is as follows:
modprobe ipt_MASQUERADE
iptables -F; iptables -t nat -F; iptables -t mangle -F
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.2/24 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
this was said to be the same as with the control center one however typing these commands does not halt my internet, but both still does not result in the ME getting internet connection
oh and one more thing, the ME is able to ping my linux while i can't ping the ME (once i can but dunno what i did and still no sharing anyway) and the firewall config in mandrake is everything (no firewall) -> from control center -> security
sorry for the long post and any help is appreciated
