i boot into gnome and when it gets to a certain point i get ip information for eth0 with dhcpcd failed. all in all i love mandrake, kicks windows a@@ for speed but i can not get it to load or work with my ethernet card and @home cable so i may be forced back to win98 unless u all have any ideas for me to try
how do i get to ifconfig as a command line? i boot directly into gnome. nic is (farallon gfc2204 - 10/100 fast pci adapter) - if anyone can help I need to know where to put my cable isp info & ethernet info to work together. i also have a five port linksys hub.
from root @ the command line i typed ifconfig & received
lo Link encap:Local Loopback

RX packets:2369 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:2369 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collision:0 txqueuelen:0
Okay, if you didn't see anything after typing ifconfig and only saw lo, then your ethernet card is not being loaded. You might want to either check out the hardware manufact's web site, see if they have any documentation.
Actually according to their site, I didn't find your card listed anywhere. http://www.farallon.com/support/reso...ddrivers.html. You might want to go to that list and see what type of driver you could possibly use for Linux. Also in the web page they recommend you go to http://www.linuxdoc.org for documentation on the ehternet howto in which I recommend as well to try and get your card working.
I bought a Kingston KNE120TX ethernet card. It shows up in Harddrake, and network under client stats. How do I configure it to work with @Home cable modem?
where do i need to put my @home cable info--in ethernet or cable modem in internet setup--where do i put my cable id
(C:::::-A)? do i need to enter default gateway address & where?--my two dns numbers? do i need my own ip address
someplace or will (CxxxxA) resolve it?
after ifconfig recvd
