Unhappy MAJOR internet slowdown after installing things

My ethernet is crawling along at a snails pace. Logging into gaim takes a minute, loading a page on the internet is about a minute, and I can't connect to any of my Direct Connect servers because they all time out.

This morning my internet was working at its usual blazing speed, but now it's stopped. Major changes from this morning include:

installing libstdc++.so.2.10
upgrading gaim to .67
I edited /etc/ld.so.conf and added one directory line, then i deleted it and it still works really slow.
I've downgraded aim, and am in the proccess of uninstalling libstc++ but something tells me that won't work. All other computers on the network work fine and the WinXP partition accesses the internet at normal speed. Please help.

hi

you must have messed up something during the installation. check whether the net itself is slow of just some programs. if libstd older version worked properly reinstall it. some of libraries dont work well together esp if they have been compiled with a different gcc version

well, try the net on another computer or a different boot if you dual boot. also do you have any firewall stuff or iptables? a while back I had a linux router that suddenly started throttling at 0.2kps and I eventually had to reformat it.
