Mail server question!
I am fairly new to linux, and setting up a server. I have apache working fine, DNS is working great, now I'm trying to set up a mail server. Can anyone outline how to do
this? I have sendmail running as a MTA. I can ping my server POP1.X.com from anywhere on the net, and its configured for pop3 connections as well. I send mail, but
nothing happens. No error, just nothing. I have restarted sendmail after any changes, and am configuring via redhat GUI (KDE).
Can anyone provide some feedback or possibly a good link? I've read the FAQ on setting up mail servers on redhat's site, it didn't help that much.
Is there a special way to set up to send mail to other sites? I got a `this domain does not accept mail for other domains' message, do I need to relay?
Also, couple quick questions:
Is this correct: Anyone receiving mail (besides an alias) at my domain just has to have a regular user acc't?
How does this work for virtual domains/virt. Email domains?
When I try to send mail I get a prompt to input password, wrong password ask's again, correct one does not, I am assuming now that I can connect to the pop
server via a client such as Netscape mail, outlook express, etc.. but again, nothing happens, can't send mail. I have sent mail to my cisco acc't and nothing shows
up.
Thanks in advance.
