Madriva 2005: Get rid of ipv6 module

Hi,

this is a wierd problem. I recently installed Madriva 2005 on a PC. My intention is to set it up as a bind server but, when I try to ssh into it or ping it a I don't get anything back. However, it has now problems connecting to other servers via ssh or http. Now before this the PC was running windows and connected just fine both ways.

I uninstalled but, shorewall and Iptables so there shouldn't be a firewall assuming that those are the only 2 that come with mandriva. So this means that there is a Layer 3 problem as when the PC shows up on the network arpwatch gets it's Mac address.

I did notice that the IPv6 module is loading so both IPv4 and IPv6 stacks are currently engaged. Can anyone tell me how to disable IPv6? This is the only new thing that I can think of.

Actually I don't want the module to load at start up. Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

As root, run:

# rmmod ipv6

that will unload the module. If it works, you an copy and paste this:

rmmod ipv6

to the bottom of /etc/rc.d/rc.local and it will remove ipv6 after all the other init scripts have run every time you boot.

hey

To disable IPV6

echo "alias net-pf-10 off" >> /etc/modprobe.conf

or re-compile kernel without ipv6
