MAC Spoofing without downing the interface?
 

Hey all,

I'm trying to set up a system by which I can change my mac without having to restart the interface (and get a new IP). I've seen this done on FreeBSD and derivatives of FreeBSD (OSX, etc.). I'm kinda hesitant about FreeBSD because it doesn't offer any 3d acceleration for AMD64 with my card. Also, no support for XFS. Otherwise, I'd jump on the FreeBSD wagon, no questions asked.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any other operating systems that offer this feature? Or if anyone had any tips about packet mangling to get the same effect?

Some network setup info:
- Switched network.
- No access to switches.
- There's an upload quota that is checked by way of MAC.
- Each MAC must be registered to receive an IP.
- Once an IP is issued, as long as an IP isn't rerequested, the connection stays active, regardless of that particular IP's bandwidth usage.

You're right FBSD can and GNU/Linux can't w/o re-upping the interface.
Regardless of that:


There's an upload quota that is checked by way of MAC.
what you're apparently trying to do is circumvent restrictions.
Since you don't own that network this is not something LQ should help you with.

No, more like a MITM thing.
That's network abuse and consequently not something LQ will help you with.
