Losing connection in jigdo and iceweasel

Can anyone explain this behaviour in jigdo

Resolving ftp.us.debian.org... 1.0.0.0
Connecting to ftp.us.debian.org|1.0.0.0|:80... failed: Connection timed out.
Retrying.

The system will sort of 'lose' its connection after downloading a chunk of the jigdo image as shown above.

My ad-hoc fix (or rather temporary one) is to ctrl-c the session. Then host (or previously was nslookup) ftp.us.debian.org and restart the jigdo again. And man, I have to repeat it many times in a day!

The same is to my iceweasel (firefox browser). It just cannot resolve the url and load the page, and hence throw the 'connection time out' error message.

Will really appreciate someone could solve my misery with the above.

Thanks,
Wilson

Try looking at your network statistics with the command: netstat -sw

Here is a partial output from my system:
Code:
    0 incoming packets discarded
    6696514 incoming packets delivered
    5045386 requests sent out
    1 outgoing packets dropped
2 dropped because of missing route
    3 fragments dropped after timeout
    4 reassemblies required
    3 packet reassembles failed
If you are getting big numbers where I have single digits, that's a good place to start troubleshooting.

Also, your output said 8.65K/s. That seems very slow. Are you using dialup?

Lightbulb netstat output

my netstat returns below

wongdg@dg-it-aid-debian:~$ netstat -sw
Ip:
2816 total packets received
0 forwarded
0 incoming packets discarded
2816 incoming packets delivered
3024 requests sent out
Icmp:
0 ICMP messages received
0 input ICMP message failed.
ICMP input histogram:
252 ICMP messages sent
0 ICMP messages failed
ICMP output histogram:
destination unreachable: 252

Well, i'm on ADSL connection and 8k is normally what you get in Malaysia! As good as dialup isn't it?

Anyway, back to my iceweasel. I can browse internet on Konqueror no problem but iceweasel just couldn't connect anywhere on the internet, though it accesses anywhere upto the gateway ok.

And that jigdo needs frequent tinkling using the 'host' command for it to tell (or resolve) the correct address to work again.

more netstat on iceweasel

i tried to get my iceweasel to load www.google.com and netstat -t -p and got the following

dg-it-aid-debian:/home/wongdg# netstat -t -p
Active Internet connections (w/o servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
tcp 0 1 dg-it-aid-debian.:44634 1.0.0.0:www SYN_SENT 3340/firefox-bin
tcp 0 1 dg-it-aid-debian.:44634 1.0.0.0:www SYN_SENT 3340/firefox-bin

seems like iceweasel failed to resolve the correct ip but instead got 1.0.0.0

This is exactly the same problem plaguing my jigdo.

Does anyone has examplanation to this kind of symptom?

Thanks,
Wilson

Could anyone tell me why my firefox, evolution and jigdo failed to resolve the correct ip address?

Thanks,
